A Hemi Gran Coupe?
« on: August 19, 2011 - 01:05:04 PM »
A local Mopar guru claims the only engines available in the 1970 Barracuda Gran Coupe was the 225 slant six, the 318 and the 383 2 bbl, but I've heard that you could also get the venerable 426 hemi in it.  Anyone know for sure?

I think the largest engine in the GC was the 383 4-barrel.  Definately no 440's or the hemi.

No hemi's or 440's were in Gran coupes unless you count one of the first hemi cars , was a Gran Coupe that plymouth turned into a Hemicuda I think it was white had the overhead console. The car is described in an article in one of my mopar muscle mags somewheres!

Actually I have seen that very car.  It is Barracuda number three (10003) and is indeed a white 1970 Gran Coupe.  It was sold in 1970 by Poinsatte Chrysler Plymouth in Fort Wayne Indiana to a man who lives in Waterloo, IN which is about a 1 hour drive north of Ft. Wayne.  The car is in a museum behind the Auburn- Cord-Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana.  My 1970 Gran Coupe that I bought from Poinsatte had a lowly 318, which I yanked and put a 1969 Dodge 340 four bbl in.

Watch what you say about a "lowly 318" car.  One just won Best of Show and OE Gold at the Nat's last weekend.(Duster)
