1970 Shaker Hood Configuration Question ...
« on: August 11, 2011 - 09:55:42 PM »
Is it likely for a late June 1970 (3rd week) production N96 car to have the hood used for 1971 production (with the correction in the bracing)?

Just curious - I am pretty sure the hood on my car is 1971 style - real dodge hood, not repro.

Possible.

You have a factory SHAKER car?

If so, is it true that the antenna has been mounted on the pass. rear quarter instead of the pass. front fender?

This guy says that's correct for reduced antenna interference???

the car is a real N96 Challenger.  I have the real Broadcast sheet for it. The hole in the firewall is in the correct location and there is a neat punchout in the insulation where the cable goes through.

As for the antenna ---  mine is on the PASS fender.  I have seen a couple other N96 Challengers - doc'd by Galen- and they all had antenna on the PASS fender.  Just for the heck of it I googled and found a couple real N96 HEMI challlengers and they both have the antenna on the PASS fender.

Maybe the Cuda was different -

As CODY pointed out in a post about the antenna configuration; anythings possible back then. Not enough documentation on what was used when and how many.

My car originated as a Gran Coupe made in Oct. 70. It had a 70 center console in it. I could easily imagine that non buckle bracing hoods on a 71' were used or vice versa. Likely used on prior production to 10/70 perhaps?

My Hemi is a 2/70 cast date block. No way it made it for 70 production. So it's an early production 71'. Yet has 71' over stamped onto 70' serial numbers on the carbs.  D/S fender bolts are different mfg. markings than the P/S one's was another example on my car.

Beg, borrow or steal was a motto on the assembly lines then to keep things rolling along.

I was thinking about the antenna issue this AM ...

The only cars that I have noticed the rear antenna on was the AAR Cuda and T/A Challenger - I am very sure that the fiberglass hood cars had this configuration and it was becuase of radio issues ....

I couldn't imagine the small SHAKER bubble causing issues ....
