a ? for u small block guys
« on: August 21, 2011 - 12:10:43 PM »
lookin for headers,, 340 with 727 trans.. what brands do you guys run that keeps the tubes above the steering cross link  and works with a 727?   Dougs headers tells me they may not work, with this combo even with a mini starter?   ttis look promising but kinda pricey  any others out there that you recommend?
  thanks as always
Doug

There are only 3 that I am aware of that stay above the steering center link
 TTI , probably the best
Dougs , I have not tried these with a 727 but many people on the site have them
Hooker 5115-  the poorest quality

Doug's headers won't fit depending on if you have an automatic or manual shift. If you have an automatic, it will work.

Don't you mean floor or column shifter?

I've run the Doug's now for a while(4+yrs) and they look pretty good still.  I've also run them with both the 904 and 727 both being floor shift.  The 904 I ran a full size starter and the 727 the MP mini with no issues.  Ground clearance is excellent even with shorter tires(245 45 17's).

72chall,,, thanks for the answer and pics,   thats just what i was looking for.    Reason I asked was when I talked to someone at petronix,  they told me they wouldnt work with a 727 even with a mini starter there would be clearance issues.  but you proved that guy wrong :) :woohoo:

I have Dougs headers with my 318/727/floor shift .

LOVE THEM.    Easy install (relatively speaking) and they fit great. ...no denting or dinging to fit. Still look great 2.5 years later.  Great quality IMHO......ground clearance is fine.

WELL worth the extra $$$.

Spend the money once, I say, whenever you can.

I'm running the 5115 Hookers. No issues with fitment or quality. Double-check on the others to make sure they'll clear fast-ratio steering if you head that direction.
