exhaust decision

Would like so help, recommendations on exhaust systems.  So far all i decided was id like to use thrush hush mufflers  and i dont believe i need any x pipe but some of my searches seem to include an x.   So header back, valance exit 2-1/2"  dont necessarily need stainless (maybe)  what suppliers have you used?  I see systems from pypes, summit, jegs and others. soooooooo,  any and all suggestions will help me make my decision

Since you want to go with 2 1/2", make sure your system is mandrel bent.  The systems you mensioned should all be mandrel bent.  If you decide to take your car to a muffler shop and have a system custom made, it most likely won't be mandrel bent.  2 1/4" is about the max you should go when using a traditional pipe bender.   Your least expensive route would be taking it to a good exhaust shop.  It just depends on what you want out of the system.

I think most of the systems on the market put the mufflers under the rear seat and don't use a muffler on either side of the gas tank like stock.  The farther back the mufflers are in the system, the quieter it will be.  Just something to think about.  Good luck!

I'm using the Magnaflow stainless 2 1/2" system. Works great . I love the sound too, not to loud till you get on it . I know that doesn't help much as you said your going with another brand muffler...

I wanted an X pipe but the spped shop had other ideas.....the X pipe quietens it down a bit. I have flow master mufflers and they are a bit loud-magnaflow are nice

it is all sales hype !  its all in the muffler . if you dont have certain things done to your car the x pipe will not work as advertised .
we dynoed 2 fox bodied mustangs of equil hp tq and the results where not very different from eachother . actually the x pipe makes the car harder to work on  . when i fineally get my car going the h pipe will be going in , its proven to work as advertised !

I went with Accurate Exhaust- wanted everything as stock as possible, even the sound.

I may be in the minority, but I've always liked the sound of my Roadrunner "hitting a lick" with its big cam and no h/x pipe.  The exhaust pulses alternate back and forth between the exhaust tips in harmony with the car shaking at idle.  Music to my ears!  H/X pipes mute this effect which is why I'll give up a few HP not to have one.

Accurate exhaust has a special going right now through Sept 30th.  I was going to waite until next year but I think I just may order a system this fall.  If I buy the system now, I might be able to accually start the car next summer.

I had planned on having an exhaust shop bend me up a system but I don't know anyone around here that can do it.  My former boss was great at designing custom dual systems but he doesn't bend pipe anymore.

I installed the Accurate system on my 74 Barracuda. Worth the money. Fit was nice and it sounds like a mopar coming through the tips. I am happy I went with their system. A buddy of mine has a Cuda and put the Flowmaster system on it and it sounds like a 5.0 Mustang to me. I did not care for the sound, and it was loud.
