Has anyone looked inside their headlight switch?
« on: September 04, 2011 - 08:58:42 PM »
Pulled the headlight switch apart in my 73 Cuda because I have only headlights.  No other lights work.  Cleaned up the contacts and am ready to put it back together.  I have 2 springs inside the switch.  One is obviously for the detent ball.  What is the other one for?  They are the same size.  Also, what are the contacts for in the switch that look like ignition points?  Is that a circuit breaker?

If he doesn't chime in first as member Slotts ( Jim) he does a fantastic job of restoring them!

Another vote for Slotts and JS Restorations, I just put in one of his refurbished dimmers.

If you look at the replies in the 60s he shows some headlight switches disassembled/reassembled.

Thanks for the info. Now I see why the switch wasnt working.  Looks like someone was in there before me and lost one of the tension springs that goes behind a contact.  Gotta try to find another one in my pile of junk.

Found out that the spring in a click pen works just about right.  Just cut to fit.  My switch is back to 100% with the repair and a little contact cleaning.
