4 speed shifting problem

Just converted a 70 chall 340 from auto to a 4 speed (833)and am having problems shifting into 2nd gear. It is a Hurst Shifter with the competition plus. I can get it to shift into second gear when shifting from 3rd to second with a little work but it will not go into second starting from first gear. Any suggestions? Also is there somewhere on line that I can get a exploded diagram of both the linkage and the internal gears to see if the transmission was put together correctly Thanks

I wish I was still in the area I would fix it , actually if you have enough work at some point I woul dbe happy to come back & help . The service manual cover things pretty well .
I assume it will never slide into 2nd ? but it does smoothly from 3rd ?
Does it slide in smoothly from neutral ?
Is this sitting still ? engine running or not , while driving it ?
If the syncro was hanging up it should be the same from 1st or 3rd

When you say "Put together correctly", what are you referring to? Has someone done a home rebuilt, hack job on it?
Sounds like a shift rod is out of adjustment, or the shifter positive stop is adjusted in correctly...

with car sitting it will not go into 2nd. while driving the car it will go into second gear if ynou shift from from 3rd(not easy) but will shift. I purchased the transmission on ebay a complete rebuild and other than this issue seems reasonably tight . Neil I am near the end of this basically frame off so I do not have enough work to bring you here but am experiencing a few wiring issues and this transmission problem. Frank
