Mopar Action Magazine
« on: August 30, 2011 - 06:01:54 PM »
Has anyone here got their new issue yet . What has my attention is Prime Steer on page 60 . I,m wondering what you guys think ? I've been having other issues with my steering and have noticed symptoms in this article .I went to the suggested web site but the kit is not there or ready for sale for E bodies yet . I called feelFirm and they said about 3 or 4 weeks and a cost of $125 or $150 . I know others who have the same gripe about sloppy steering and this "sounds" like a fast easy fix . Thoughts ? :clueless:

In a nut shell it says the pitman arm is too long . With someone else working my steering wheel back and forth you can see my gear box move , same as in the article . They say that = sloppy steering . The solution is a plate with a bearing that bolts to the k frame and the out shaft of the gear box stiffining everything up . It's a good read with plenty of pitchers just wish I knew if it worked or not . If I get no bad feed back it will make for an easy winter project .  :dunno:

Tried to scan it so I could post it for you folks but it came out too fuzzy . I probably could get in trouble for that anyway . (copy wright)

Read the article today. Firm Feel, $125-$150?  I figured the piece would cost around $50-$75.  Guess I'm wrong (again).  Another suspension/steering piece to be revealedin next Mopar Action.

I haven't seen it yet but...the steering box mount has always been a flex point in the system. Gussets to shore up the mount and reduce deflection have long been a standard for improved handling to those in the know, so the thought that the steering output shaft is too long and allows flex seems almost like a band-aid fix to a practically non-existent problem, IMO. However, if it is a simple bolt in, then maybe it has some merit compared to yanking your engine out and welding up gussets to the steering box mount, and at $150, they will still sell plenty because the cheap way out is also the mucho harder way to fix the issue.

I was thinking the price was a little high . But I was also thinking Rack and Pinion before reading this . I tightened the free play out of the box which did help however the car still seems to want to drift . I'm NOT saying this will be a fix but if it was and the parts were quality the price could be worth it .

Keep us posted. I hate the way they write so much that I won't waste my money on it. Their crap was funny when I was 15, but not 20+ years later...

I saw that too and was wondering if its worth it.  I have a FF level 3 and while steering isnt what I would call "sloppy", I might try it for the price and see what the improvement is.

I dont think they are available yet though....

I have one of the DSS steering stabilizers on my Gen 2 Ram truck and it did make a big difference.  They based the Mopar kit off of the DSS, so it seems like it should help?  :dunno:
