install a 5.7 hemi with 545rfe in a E body
« on: October 10, 2011 - 08:47:09 PM »
I have a 1974 cuda, and want to replace it with 2005 5.7 hemi with a 545rfe tranny. Has anyone been able to do this? If so I want to chat with you about install issues you found with the tranny. Any help would greatly be helpful.

I have not, but I dont see any reason why it couldnt be done. The biggest obstacle I see would be the tunnel but that can be cut and re-welded.  Not sure a bout the transmission but it probably requires electronics. There are most likely work around for that as well.

Are you doing a complete swap - i.e. stock harness, computer, everything?? If not, and you are going to go aftermarket controls, spend some time making sure there is support for the 545RFE. I have seen aftermarket support for the NAG1 but not the RFE...
