Door Panel Removal?
« on: September 15, 2011 - 02:57:10 PM »
My driver's side window is a little out of alignment...I book marked a post on how to adjust it so that's not the problem.  The problem is to adjust it I need to remove the door panel?

I see there are screws around the outside, I know the window crank comes off with an allen wrench.   How about the mirror control, armrest, lock mechanism, etc?

Anyone have a step by step guide to doing this?

I tried the search but it's broken for now.

As I recall, there are one or two screws under the armrest.  You unscrew the bezel around the mirror knob and there is one screw holding the "lock" knob on.  Pry loose from the bottom and lift up to get the window felts loose from the door frame. Good luck.

Okay, I just looked at mine.  There are two screws for the armrest and there are a half dozen or so spring clips across the top, just below the window felt that need to be popped loose.  Other than that, you should be good to go after you remove the armrest, mirror knob and lock knob.

Yep, there are two screws in each arm rest.  They are inside the plastic cup section...not under the armrest.  There are some metal clips that also hold the panel tight to the door.  Those should pop loose when you pull on the panel.  You do not have to remove the inner door handles.

You need to remove the door lock lever.

Yes, the lock lever needs to be removed but not the door handle.

Once you get the panel off, can you take a picture of how the metal plate mounts under the arm rest?  I have no idea how all that goes back together.(it's been 13+ years since I took the door panels off)

How do you get the "Lock" lever off?  I removed the hex head that was under it, but that did not appear to do anything. The panel is loose now, and that's the only thing holding it on.

With the hex bolt removed there's nothing else holding it in. Sometimes when that bolt is tightened TOO much it squeezes the two halves of the lever's bottom so much that it's really hard to get it off the shaft that it's on. You're just going to have to keep working it. I've had to wiggle mine from side to side occasionally until it spreads out enough and pulls off. Maybe someone has some other suggestions.

Yeah some WD-40 and elbow grease got it off.  I just didn't want to go yanking on it and break something :)

Burdar I'll get your picture tomorrow.

Let me know if these don't cover it.  I'll probably have the panel off for a day or two to give it a good cleaning.

Got the glass aligned much better and put the panel back on.  One of the twisted metal clip things on the bottom was pretty mauled. It looked like someone smashed it on without aligning it.  The bottom of my passenger door is loose at one end so it's probably missing one or more of those clips as well.

Anyone know of a source for them/what they are called?  I'm guessing Roseville or someone sells them but I have no idea what to search for :)

You may be able to find a replacement at a bodyshop or parts store.  Take the old one....or one of the good ones in to see if they can match it up.
