carb thoughts?

Ive been doing a lot of asking around on what carb i should get and it seems everyone is set in their ways with a vast difference in opinion...

Ive heard recommendations for AED, quick fuel, proform, avenger, quadrojet etc etc

I left a message with a friend of a friend who knows mopars well and is a dyno tuner. I asked him what carb he recommends, size, options, etc since he will be the one tuning it on the dyno, and asked him to recommend something that he is familiar with that will perform well.

he says he has the most success lately with the avenger series and recommends the avenger 670 /w elec choke and vac secondaries

engine is a 340TA /w
(supposedly from PO) 10:1 cr forged pistons
forged rods
arp everywhere
rpm air gap manifold
Erson cam 286 246@.050 .510 lift

i couldn't tell you how it ran before, its a brand new motor - it had a 6pack on it and never ran good enough to drive it.

Quick Fuel & Proform are the same company , Proform is slightly cheaper.
as I said before they have tunable idle & main jet air bleed circuits to really dial the carb in all the way , far better potential than the Avenger series

We bolted a Street Avenger to my Brother's 318 'Cuda with mild upgrade and was shocked how well it did out of the box.
I don't even think we had to adjust the float settings.
Mind you, this car is no screamer, starts good cold and hot and runs well enough.

1 must though is it had those terrible "plastic" sights for setting levels that WILL go bad. If they still come with them change over to brass ASAP

If you want a runner with little input I would go that route, but for the ultimate in fine tuning you will want to lean towards the carbs CP has mentioned

Did you expect anything less? Everybody as well as every engine is different. Some will respond better to one style carb, while the other won't even run with it on it.

My best thoughts? Have a BUNCH at your disposal and keep trying different ones until you hit the mark...NOBODY will be able to tell you EXACTY what carb will perform perfectly and give great Dyno numbers...

You didn't state what type of transmission you have.  In any case, I'm on the Proform bandwagon.

  with MEK. I have a much larger carb than you need but zero issues with the Proform. I simply need to dump more fuel in at WOT but that is my problem not the carb.

i ended up getting a 670 street avenger, ill start there. i really like all the proform carb mentioned above, all those billet parts are nice! im gonna see how it starts here in the winter (removing the choke) and go from there, i know it will hit good numbers on the dyno. i'll keep an eye out for a good deal on ebay for possibly a slightly used proform that i can try out on the dyno.

i have a feeling there will be some tweaking after the initial numbers to some other hardware (probably the cam) after the winter. well see.

oh the transmission is a 4spd man.
