yesterday I put a cheetah FAVB into my 727. Car is challenger with 3.23 rear and stock 383, 26,5 dia wheels with proper speedo gear. Throttle linkgage set properly!
Before the tranny had TF2 kit and was lacking 2-1 kickdown. 3-2 was fine, when in D it was shifting a bit to early at WOT (3-3.5k), but when slowing down to a stop it was returning to 1 below approx 5 mph. While selecting gears manually upshifts were good, 3-2 also good but manual 2-1 banged only under 10 mph. Sterted in manual low the tranny lept the gear as long as I wished.
I checked the governor pressures and it was:
0 mph – 0 - 0,5 psi
5 – 1-3
10 – 7-8
15 - 13
20 – 20
25 – 25
30 – 35
40 – 40
50 - 48
This looked fine to me so I thought something in the stock VB prevents 3-1 and 2-1 kickdown... I bought a brand new cheetah VB with full automatic functions to replace my stock+TF2 VB.
While test riding I noticed that WOT shifts are higher, part throttle shifts too. Alle about 200-300 rpm higher. However the 3-2 kickdown works only below 30 mph and there's still no 3-1 and 2-1 forced downshift.
I studied fluid paths once again and my guess is the governor pressure is still to high to be overcome by spring+throttle pressure. As line and throttle pressure are set by the new valvebody it must be the governor... but the pressures are good?
Any ideas?
