Just looked up what a ballast resistor does and now Im wondering why it's there? Seems like with an mad coil I won't need one?

there was a article in Mopar muscle magazine a few months back that explained how to get rid of it if you wanted to.

seems like to bypass it i just hook the wires directly to the coil?
i mean do i really need a voltage drop for a modern MSD coil? do they assist in starting that much? bc it seems like its just robbing power to the coil. especially on a hot start when the reisistor is already heated up

It really depends on the coil you plan to use. The original Mopar coils needed the ballast resistor. The after market stuff...Some do need it, and some don't. Maybe look at the manufacturers website for details.
