Dash frame question
« on: October 14, 2011 - 05:28:12 AM »
I just picked up a whole load of Challenger stuff at a very good price. Included in the deal was a dash frame and top pad that the guy wanted to be rid of. I took it mainly to help him clean up his shed.

The top pad is a cracked Barracuda unit so I'm sure someone will have a use for it but the frame itself has been modified. Someone cut the ashtray opening wider for some reason. Other than that, the frame is perfect.

So my question is...does this modified frame have any value? Are they hard to come by? Are the Cuda and Challenger frames the same? Also, are the frames the same for rallye and non-rallye? How can I tell what year it is? He said it was from a 70 Cuda.

I'm thinking of cutting it apart and tossing it but if it has value or can be easily repaired, I'll find a home for it.

Cuda and Challengers use the same dash frame.

For the most part all the years should be interchangeable, I can't think of any significant differences.

I'd keep it.  Parts are just going to get harder and harder to find for these cars.  Someday someone will need that one and would be happy to fix the mods done to it.  If you have the space to store it then that's what I'd do. :2cents:

So are the frames the same for rallye and non rallye? I'm guessing they are.

Identical, all told there were probably 1million of these made, don't really see a demand, especially for 1 that has been cut up.
I actually have 1 in my shed I've been saving, if you have room keep it.  You're not throwing away a gold mine if you don't.

Thanks. Good to know. The guy gave me a really good bargain on a major load of stuff so I wasn't going to start getting all choosey on him. I'll probably wait until mine comes out and as long as mine is perfect, I'll get rid of this one. I figured I might cannabalize it to repair mine if needed. Otherwise, I don't really have enough room to hang onto it forever. When I get ready to toss it, I'll put a post on here first and see if anyone needs one. Thanks for the info.

The OE dash pad is worth 100.00 as a core, it's worth more than the frame.
