Changing from 73 to 72 bumper?
« on: October 18, 2011 - 04:35:48 PM »
I am changing my 73 challenger bumpers to 72 and wondering if there is a bumper filler that I need. I have the earlier brackets and bumpers and I see roseville has a bumper filler listed. I did the search on this subject and pics are to old to show me anything. Thanks.

72's only used a small black rubber piece in the top corners of the bumper.  They didn't use the big gray fillers that 73 and 74 used.  Those small black rubber pieces are available new.

You could have just removed the large bumper guards and moved the bumper back to the 72 possition.  All it takes is drilling a couple 5/8" holes in the stock brackets right where the square holes are located.  There maybe an extra hole from the bumper guards but that can be filled with a bumper bolt.

I did this several years ago.  The only things I needed to buy were the 70-71 brackets (front and rear), the rear chrome bumperettes, or whatever they're called, and I put in a 70-71 rear bumper filler panel.  The only modification that had to be done was to fill 2 holes on the rear bumper where the large crash bumper guards bolted in.

I think 70 and 71 also used the small black rubber pieces on the bumber.  It may not be nessesary but they came from the factory with them.

Here's what they look like.

This comes up every now and again.  I think this is the best thread on it:

He said he already has the bumper and the correct 72 brackets.  All he needs to know is if 72 used a bumper filler.  They did.  You can see them in this picture.

I guess I left them off, then.  I only added the filler for the rear.  I'll have to take a look at those.
