Can someone please tell me why my oil pick up is not fitting!!??
« on: October 20, 2011 - 01:49:49 PM »
I am so frustrated I could scream.   The oil pick up for  my 383 will not fit!!  I have bought several different styled pick ups and none of them will fit.  I have a 402 pan and the pickup with 2 bends( which is supposed to be the correct one)  but it hangs too low.  Even with spacers to account for the 2 gaskets and windage tray.  Why in the heck can they not produce a part that fits without having to "adjust" or "alter it to make it fit.  I can't believe that no one else has ever not had the same problem.

Thanks
Mike

I understand your frustration. I have assembled many big block, strokers included and in most of them, I have had to bend the pick up tube somewhat to make it fit. My advise is to install the tube tightly, and then grab the tube and slowly bend it a little at a time to get the desired fit. Not sure how much clearance between the oil pan and the pick up screen you want, but find something that is about the right thickness and use a single loop of tape and tape it to the bottom of the pick up screen. Then install the oil pan without a gasket and snug it down. Adjust the pick up tube until the spacer you applied just barely touches the pan when snugged down and you are set.....      :2thumbs:
