If the voltage dropped to 12, then you either got a loose connection, or a bad regulator....and a slight possibility of it being the alternator, but, I would doubt that possibility.

Lotsa replacement parts seem to be faulty these days

Replacement reg is a genuine Mopar one. When I have finally finished sorting the timing on the dissy, I'll go over everything.. Fingers crossed it comes good. My neighbours will be  pleased when Im done  :working:  :burnout:

Have you bypassed the ammeter?
If not,you should.

NO.. Reason? Please dont tell me they have a tendency to set the car on fire like our early HR Holdens..   :eek2:

Im hoping this afternoon to finally finish the timing curve, twicked and modified the vacuum so with any luck the figures should be, 16 initial 36 total and all in by 2700 rpm[ish] the vacuum shouldn't be pulling more than 10 on top of this. Just having a few probs with the springs as they are smaller than usual so I cant eaisly replace with what I got so bending is the only way. This has caused it to rely on one spring , with that  I have to streach it.  Its holding on and not moving away until after 1100rpm+ . I dont think its too much of a deal as it's easily "revved over" when you take off, vacuum and all should take care of it.

Mine had been on fire at the ammeter and someone had twisted a bunch of wires together to get it to run.  I bypassed it completely...if not fried already, you can go straight to battery and leave it connected at the ammeter so that it remains in the loop but does not read the full amperage.

Sure was fun pulling the melted wiring bundle apart and fixing all the bad wires inside...

AT this point I have set the dissy at 16 initail and 36 total with vac it tops out at 49 all in by 2700rpm vacuum is very linear stays about 22 inhg all the way through [this is all static and hooked up to an engine analyser]. ,Because I couldnt change springs [they are an odd size] I had to bend the tabs to get it in by 2700 the initail timing wont move away until somewhere around 1700rpm :-\ it doesn't seem to be an issue with vac its around 29 degrees anyway and the fun starts upwards of there. our freeway speed is 100kph this sits the car on 2400rpm and open speed limit is 110kph so it would sit right on maximum timing. It goes real well nice and smooth, good change for the money, easy enough to do.

Still trying to sort out the voltage loss, Its just sitting at 13.3 at the moment so Im putting some "grounding"points and will go over the wiring again.  :pullinghair:

How do I by-pass the ammeter?

Thank you all for your help

simply bolt both wires to one side of the ammeter
