« on: October 29, 2011 - 02:55:58 PM »

the tent which was bent a few years ago by another branch is pretty bad now, but thats twice it saved the car!

If I were you Id reinforce the frame and a cover or nets to catch everything.

Close call, it'd have some pretty inexpensive schedule 90 to redo that frame as well. It'll be a heavy sucker, but if trees are close by it'd be nice!

Been through this discussion before,I'd love to , property coverage maxed out & garage is my sheet metal shop.
This being the 2nd time I may look into beefing up the frame some & adding a few cross bars, even the original heavy tarp would not hold snow, so she's always bare in the winter. A winning lottery ticket could fix all this, a little ranch house with a 7 or 8 car garage! :naughty: Rich.

Rich, I'd have to say cut the tree or move the cars. Shade is nice in the summer however the repair from a fallen branch on the Cuda will be far outweigh that. Plus the needles/leaves get into the body panels and cause corrosion.

Coincidentally we're removing a maturing tree in our driveway tomorrow for those reasons along with the 5 lb. pine cones that are ready to drop.  :bricks1:

What about a few 45 degree "cross bars" that zig-zag along the frame and use chainlink? Shouldn't offer much wind resistance, won't hold snow...but should hold back the average tree branch if you have enough crosses.  With the added weight you'd probably want to A-frame it to help hold it's shape. Unfortunately it seems like winter is knocking on your door already!

I've cleaned all off my property over the years, that one is on town property behind my fence, I trimmed what I could reach over the years, but it's just too big now, last one was from a giant willow just behind my neighbors property, again town won't top that either, that sucker is big, the one I had cost 2K to remove, did that after a giant branch fell in the field behind me, willow was 179" around the base! After that was gone I started getting invaded from all the trees outside my property growing towards the new found light! You just can't win! :pullinghair: Rich.
