Am I missing a support brace on 73 chal
« on: October 31, 2011 - 08:08:59 PM »
Hi all,
I noticed that I seem to be missing a support panel on the inside of my passenger quarter. Have included 2 photos of each side to help explain what i am talking about. Driver side panel is spot welded to rear quarter panel. Also has a bracket attached to it with 2 allen bolts. Doesn't seem to be any weld spots on passenger side where panel is missing. May have been missing since new.
Will I have to make a replacement and if so is a mirror image of the driver side one ?
What about the bracket. What is it's purpose. Need to make this also ?
Forgot to meantion my car is a 73 challenger. Mite be a certain year thing.
Hope someone can help, thanks tony.

Yes, you are missing that brace.  The piece with the allen bolts is the quarter window UP stop.  There is a plastic pin that sticks out from the quarter glass and contacts that piece when the window is up to the correct hight.

Thanks Burdar,
I purchased the car 80% pulled apart.  The brace must have been missing from initial assembly as there is no sign of force or drilling to remove it.  Will make a pattern of the driver side and fabricate from there. Do you  think it will be a mirror image of the driverside one ? What Is the large hole at  the rear of the brace for ?
Thanks again for the great help. Tony.

The brace should be spot welded to the quarters before they are installed.  They guys that replaced my quarters didn't get them in the right spot.  I had to rivit them in the correct location since the car is already painted.  I have no idea what that large hole in the back is for.  At first I thought about drilling a hole through the roof support and using that hole with a bolt through it to hold it inplace.

The brackets are mirror images of eachother.  There is a guy on here that is parting out a 73.  Get ahold of him and I'm sure he would send you the bracket you're missing.

Also, test fit your quarter window fuzzies NOW.  The ovaled holes in my new quarters were way off.  I broke the tabs off of the quarter window fuzzies and I'm using very small screws to install them.

Hi Burdar,
Thanks for the great input. Will test fit my Fuzzies . Friend with a 70 came out yesterday and we fabricated a new one. I may a pattern out of thin alloy and then used that for the on made out of 1.6mm steel. Will drill the required holes and fit soon when my friend brings his mig out. He is alot better at welding than me. I also had to make the small finger sized adjustment bracket. Will post a photo soon.
 Thanks again, tony
