What is it?

My 70 Challenger RT is back on the road after a complete rotisserie restoration.  I have a couple of left over parts that I cannot remember where they were.  The car runs great and everything works.  The brass bushing(?) or ferrule  is about 1 1/4" long with a 5/8" long #8 sheet metal screw.  It is designed to crimp to something on the back side I think.  Is it supposed to be an electrical ground for something? The small hold down tab is steel.  Any ideas where these parts came from? PK

The top picture, brass grommet. reminds me what was on my rear carpet in the corners under the back seat. There was no screw involved but flexible metal that went through the grommets to hold the carpet in place.

Bullitt-, thanks for the response to my question.  Yes, grommet is a better description than what I provided.  It's connetction with the carpet does not ring a bell.  I didn't label the part when I removed it because , as I thought 4 1/2 years previous , it's use would be obvious and anyway who couldn't remember where that went.  Now it is a complete mystery. My what time does to a memory.  PK

PK  your car looks great!!  I will be adding hood pins to mine to keep the hood from dancing at highway speeds.

I appreciate the responses to my post and still hoping for an identification of the left over parts.  Phil, I saw some pictures of your car on this site and it looks great.  Remember I used your advise (along with Neil) when building my engine and still appreciate your help with my Thermoquad. You will like the hood hold down pins.  I know my hood would do a lot of dancing were it not for my pins.  Those stabilizing wedges in the rear corners are a must as well.  Dutch, receiving a compliment from you with a car like yours is a real honor.  You have a really fine looking automobile.  Mulethras, thank you as well.  The color is FJ5 (Sublime) the original color for the car.  I simply used my fender tag to tell me what to do with the car while restoring it.  This is the second time it has been fj5.  Ma Mopar painted it that color then it was red, then white, then red and now green again. Although it has been painted five times it only has one color on it now since I took it to bare metal all over. The picture was taken indoors (my shop) as you can tell but it looks a little different in the sunlight.  Jon Carson's "Fenders and Fins" in Woodinville, Wa applied the color over my body work.  I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Wade is correct...the brass grommet is for the carpet.  There was one per side.  They were attached to the rear carpet section and went through some brackets.  The drivers side bracket also held the tail light wiring harness inplace.  The grommets are covered up when the interior panels are installed.  New carpet doesn't come with those grommets.

Do you mean the little rubber posts that attach to the rear corners (and center) of the hood?

Phil, I'm talking about the hard black plastic spring loaded wedges that position the hood on each rear corner.  They are actually located about 10 inches from the corners.  They attach to the inner fender with two sheet metal screws each.  Sorry I don't know the exact nomenclature.  Jon Carson calls them "isolators".  If you need a picture I can get one in a couple days.  PK

Thanks Wade and Burdar for identifying the brass grommet for me.  My carpet had been replaced and the brass grommets were not used in the replacement.  Now I'm trying to figure out where the grommet was located.  I only have one so maybe it was just laying on the floor under the replacement carpet.  I found an old receipt in some papers that came with the car showing that the replacement carpet was purchased at a Dodge dealer and carried a Mopar parts number.  I did not reuse it because it has faded in places from the sun.  It is black but where it faded it is reddish.  The carpet is is very good condition except for the fading.  Anyone need black carpet for an automatic with console?  PK

thanks PK.   I know those parts.  I had to put 1/8 thick aluminum angles under them so the wedges would contact the Goodmark hood (with OEM fenders).
