oil pressure gauge ?
« on: November 07, 2011 - 11:43:06 PM »
My oil press gauge (actually the tubing) keeps getting large air pockets in it and I'm thinking that this could be causing may gauge to show low oil pressure.  I cranked the engine over until I had oil coming out then quickly attached the tube to the gauge.  But after running the engine for short time, the line showed more air in it than oil.  What is the norm on this.  If air keeps getting in , then is that indicative of a problem some where?  Is there something I'm not doing right?  I have not tried a different gauge yet to see if it is bad.  FYI I don't see any leaks on either the gauge end or the eng side of the tubing.?

air in the line will not cause the gauge to read low , as the oil heats up it is easy for the oil to bypass the air & allow air into the line , the same pressure has to be exerted on both side of the compressed air
