venting
« on: November 07, 2011 - 11:06:41 PM »
So, I am pretty hot right now.  I own a 77 dodge ramcharger.  It is an original 440 with AC.
No rust what so ever on the entire vehicle.
A local from my neighboring town who happens to be a car flipper came by to ask what I wanted for the ramcharger.
I told him 900.00. I have about 2500.00 into it to get it here and purchase it.
He gave me a 400.00 deposit so he wouldn't loose the truck.
I had to remove all my ramcharger parts and dodge parts from the truck.
Put them all in my garage.  Made it so I couldn't even pull a vehicle in for repairs if need be.
Towed out three vehicles to get this truck out from storage.
So I tell him to come over and pick it up and bring the remainder of the money.
He says he only agreed to the 400.00.

I have known several flippers over the years and this guy was trying to pull a con on me.
Seen this one before, just never got caught in one like this.
he figured he could just get me to give the truck up for the 4 bills since I had gone through so much trouble and it was out and ready.

well, I had him come over to get his refund as I was not going to do give in to his con.
Matter of a fact, I was flat out pissed.
I told him I should punch him in his face and take his money for trying to con me.
I usually am not an aggressive person in this way, but I absolutely hate being conned.
he absolutely refused in getting his ars kicked.
Apologized and apologized.  I don't feel they were sincere.
Said he could get a ramcharger like this for 900 any day of the week.
So, after calling him out, and him trying repeatedly to get me to give him the money, I gave him his money back.
I am a man of my word. I said I would refund the money if the need be, and I did.
I feel as if a man is nothing more than his word.
We agreed and he broke the agreement.
Deserving in a good punch in the mouth for lying.

I have been coned so much in the automotive hobby.
There are so many other hobbies that I enjoy and never have I been so mistreated in any of them.
Seems there are alot of car "enthusiasts" that like to get the upper hand.

Some days I just want to give it all up. Cars that is.

Ok, rant over.  Back to moving parts back into the truck in the snow.

That blows if he's a local Id let others know about his bs. Nice of you to keep your word even though he didn't deserve his money back.  :2thumbs:

You did the right and respetable thing to give his money back and tell him that you knew you were being conned.   Hitting him, despite I think all of us would want to, would not make you any better than the guy he is.

People like that will eventually fall victim to their own greed.  Let this monkey con someone else and maybe someone else won't be as much of a gentleman that you are and do some dental work on him.  :2cents:

Thanks guys.

So, some positive has come of this.

I re organized my truck parts and have room for some of my barracuda parts.
That gives me more space in the garage for working on the actual car.

Another thing is that I am going to put some better tires on the truck since it is out.
There is always a positive side to everything.
Glad I found it.

The First thing I do in this trype situation is tell the perspective buyer that "You go ahead and keep your money and come back with all of it and we'll have a car getting out of storage" party. If dude wanted that truck that bad, he'd have helped dig it out for $900.00....Agreed, Flippers are being taught over and again on TV shows like "Flip Men", "American Pickers", etc. that all you need to do to make quick, easy money is con folks out of their sh*t and flip for profit. There's only one problem with this though, most people refuse to be conned out of their sh*t.

A word of advice, what i have done in the past is write up a receipt (bill of sale) stating the agreed price both parties agree on, then record the deposit left by the potential buyer on the receipt, and if you feel it is not right, you can also write in that a fee will be kept if the buyer pulls out of the deal, then have both parties sign it as an agreement. You will find out who really want it compared to who will not sign such a receipt. Do not give up the receipt until the sale is completed, and paid in full. :2thumbs:

Vent away
I still have my 68 Dart GTS because I had  guy tell me everything bad about the economy and tell me its only worth $2000 now.I was nice and told him if the economy is so bad?you shouldn't be looking at a  Dart GTS,you should find yourself a Honda Civic and I walked away.
Now the car is in the garage as I am doing the body work and converting it over to a 4spd and will be driving it next summer :roflsmiley:

Should have flipped the con on him.

Tell him you were keeping his deposit and sorry that he was mistaken but you still need the $500 for the remainder, deal's a deal.

The deal was done and you need the $500, no backtracking unless he wants to lose his deposit. Oh BTW, the storage fee is adding up on top of the $900 by the day!

I bet he would have coughed up the agreed upon price rather quickly.

If you weren't good friends with him, you should have done the whole transaction in writing. I know hinesight is 20/20...

It's stinks you had to go thru this, but you would have felt worse if you let it go for $400. And even though he deserved to get punched out, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen possibly. So you did the right thing, but it still stinks.    :swear:

I completely agree. If i was not in the middle of spending all my money on my cuda I would have been real interested in a ramcharger for the kinda low price. Then again I live in Michigan and they salt the roads out here
