No head lights
« on: November 13, 2011 - 06:25:40 PM »
I just hooked up my headlights to my new harness and they do not work when I flip the switch. I have 4 brand new headlights and the harness is brand new. My igintion works fine. Any idea's. I have the key turned on.  I am wondering if I'm missing a ground or something. Of all things, the factory radio light comes on when I flip the switch. Go figure.

you got an electrical test light? I would start off by testing the ends of the harness that plug into the lights and see if you are getting any power to there.  Check and double check the ground...had the same problem with mine, turned out i didn't have the thing grounded good

Headlight harness grounds to the radiator support.

Don't overlook the foot pedal dimmer switch in the drivers floor. That seems to be a problem spot.

What about the rear lights?  If the rear park/running lights go on with the switch then that would eliminate a switch malfunction.

Hello All,

The rear talights work when I flip the switch. I do not have the dimmer switch connected. I have new floor pans and they do not have the holes. I need to get measurments to see where to drill them. I guess I could go ahead and hook it up for now, unless it needs to be bolted down to be grounded.

it doesn't need to be grounded but all the power to the headlights goes through the floor dimmer switch .
You may want to install relays for he headlights though

2 std 30 amp relays & 2 inline fuses , I mount the relays near the starter relay & take power from the battery terminal on the start relay . if you do a search there are a number of posts with wiring diagrams , basically just cut into the Red & Purple headlight wires to switch the relays & send power on to the headlights using the factory wire . You will find the headlights are brighter this way
