« on: November 27, 2011 - 12:14:32 PM »
I have tti headers 2.5 exhaust with x-pipe and magna flow mufflers with factory tips. I get strong exhaust fumes inside car. I have sealed everything and still get fumes inside. I was told to drill holes in bottom of tips anyone ran into this problem?

I assume you don't have side pipes, and the exhaust runs out back?

If so, I had a problem with that years ago. The gaskets around my tail lights had disintegrated, thus allowing exhaust into the trunk, then into the passengers area. I could even see light shining thru the back of the tail light buckets went I bent over and looked into the trunk.

Do the doors have good weatherstripping?

Just my thoughts at the moment...

Welcome aboard here also!

I agree , the problem is more likely in the tailight , truck seal or inner lower [trunk drops] 1/4 panels not being sealed up tight

I think CP means 'trunk' drops. Where the trunk floor drops down to where it meets up with the bottom edge of the quarter panel.

FWIW, I would take a good sniff in the engine compartment and make sure any leaks up front are not getting in through a bad cowl-to-hood seal.  Mine was bad and it allowed some fumes to get in.   I also think it's important to keep the vents open when driving to keep air pushing through the car.

I have Hooker headers that always leaked at the center cylinders on each side. I had to weld up the flanges to add material then file them flat to seal them up. Smell was coming from the front.

Mine is only if the windows are down at all. Seems to create alot of negative pressure and pulls it in horribly. I have resealed my fuel neck to trunk floor but still have to get in the tag light assy, cowl seal and plug a few holes in the firewall then hopefully it will get better.

there is a L shaped panel , level with the trunk floor that drops down the the bottom of the lower fender lip & is welded together there , this is a common place for rust + there hsoul dbe 2 body plugs inside the panels , if it is not sealed there it will leak fumes in badly

This summer I noticed bad exhaust fumes in the car whenever I stopped at a traffic light. When driving, no issues. I'm going to have to check out my tail lights and trunk drops this weekend. :working:

...and considering that the only thing between this area in the trunk and the interior is the rear seat back, which is cloth, it is easy to see how fumes can get in the car. Installing the factory cardboard bulkhead will help with this. Even better is a trimmed to fit metal panel that is sealed.
