paint?
« on: October 30, 2011 - 06:48:33 PM »
'73 Dodge Challenger has some pieces/panels (sorry I'm a bit challenged on terminology) on the back with the tail lights and "DODGE" in it. Came with black crinkle finish (I guess that's what you call it). Mine has much of the crinkle texture remaining, but is kind of turning rust red. What to use to make that look like it did in '73? Is there a paint that works well? Looked in the Eastwood catalogue, but didn't see anything that looked like it would suffice. Any suggestions, recommendations on how to make that look good again?

You can get factory correct argent from Frank Badalson at Rodger Gibson Restoration but it isn't cheap.  I think it run around $125 for a pint.

If you just want something that's close to the right color and has some texture to it, you can buy both the light and dark argents from Totally Auto.  The colors by themselves don't match the original color though.  You have to mix them.  Spray the dark argent first...then spray on the light argent. :2cents:

The picture of the blue one with that silver looks sweet. I may have to hold off for a while (too many other things going on), but I'm going to do that when I can. Thanks!

Yes, it was silver, but there's black there as well. Wierd thing is I can't tell which came first; silver or black. Almost like there were two different "argents" on there to begin with. This car sat in some backyard weeds for a loooong time and It don't look like anyone else ever did anything to it besides my dad and I. Looking forward to getting that silver back on there.

Originally the tail light housings were sprayed with black organisol paint.  The area around the tail lights was masked off and the argent was sprayed over top of the black.

That explains it. Thanks for the help. What about a 71 'Cuda?  What for tail panel paint on it? Car looks good, but someday we may want to make it look totally authentic!

I think this is correct...

Cuda= organisol black
Barracuda= body color
Barracuda GC= argent(probably light argent)
