1972 Challenger Script Placement
« on: November 14, 2011 - 12:00:47 PM »
Hello,

I'm finishing off the restoration of my custom 72 Challenger and I need some help with photos and advice on where the "Challenger" emblems go on a stock car.  I have found plenty of photos of 70s and 71s, but the few 72 photos I've seen highlight that the side script looks like it was moved to the rear quarter panel just above the rear side marker light in 1972 and beyond.  Can someone please confirm for me what the correct location of the Challenger side emblem?

I'm also wondering if there should be a Challenger script emblem on the trunk somewhere?  I've seen some photos showing this emblem in the lower righthand corner and some photos without it.  Unfortunately, my shop manual and sales literature are of little help here.

Thank you!

There shouldn't be any emblems on the trunk in 72-74.  The "Challenger" quarter emblems should be centered over the side markers.  I'm sure the placement varied a little on every car.  It seems like centering the emblem in the upper section of the quarter looks the best.  I have yet to install mine but I'm planning on placing them like in this picture.  IF I was building a modified car, I'd probably leave them off.  The car looks a lot cleaner without them. IMO

Thank you!  This is very helpful confirmation and I've likewsie thought about leaving them off all together.  I had '71 RT hood blackout and side stickers recently put on, which gave the car a whole new look, and I'm leaning towards leaving well enough alone.

I would like to add back the "440 Magnum" script on the Rallye hood, so can you help me with the placement location of this one?

Someone with that exact emblem is going to have to help you with that one.  Those were originally pined on...not adhesive backed.

Here are a couple of pictures I saved for placement on mine. I believe the earlier fender emblem location was just moved laterally to the quarter panel centered over the marker lens with the bottom of the g right at the start of the body line roll.

Just my  :2cents:.

Oh, you just have to love her outfit!

Thank you Slotts!  You are super helpful as always and I appreciate it.

I will skip the Challenger scripts, but I have to put the 440 Magnum scripts on, as I don't want to unfairly surprise any local Ford or Chevy owners.

It is interesting to see those old 70s photos and I'm glad fashion has moved on (notice I didn't quite say progressed).

Oh yes, and for those wondering, here is what my car looked like prior to the hood and side decals being applied.
