Chrome trim removal
« on: November 14, 2011 - 06:58:57 PM »
Hi guys,

I need to remove all the trim around the winshield, rear window and doors. This is something I have never done before. I just bought a tool for the glass trim but do not know how to use it. Does anyone know of a video that shows the removal of these pieces? I really do not want to damage the trim of crack the glass.

Slide the blade in under the metal strip and get the sharp point up between the clip and the rolled edge of the trim (next to the car body).  The trick is to spread the clip, so you can drive the point further in or try twisting and/or prying, but be sure all your work is between the rolled edge and the inside barb of the clip.  Once you get one, the rest will be easy because you'll see what you're up against.

Check Youtube, there are several vidoes showing trim removal.  The trim on the doors (belt molding) may have one screwed on mounting point on the front doors, by the lock.  So be careful or you will bend the trim.

Glad you found something. It's not the car that counts but the way you use the tool.  Go slow, also note that some times the window molding is stuck on some of the window Calucking, so even if you get it off the clip it won't come lose.

And be careful. It is possible to break the glass if you try to get forceful on removing the clips.
