Carpet Question
« on: November 27, 2011 - 12:33:42 PM »
Can anyone tell me where the "heelpad" on the driverside capet is located relative to the gas pedal?  My car is a 70 challenger automatic.  Unfortunately, I tossed the old carpet years ago and I lost my reference.  Also, can anyoine tell me how much overlap is between the front and rear carpet pieces.

Thanks

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

Needed to cut about 3 inches from the top of the carpet where it interfaces with the firewall.  It fits perfectly with the heel pad located close to the pedal.  There is about a 1-2 inch overlap with the rear piece.

Check out this link.

You can see that there is a cut-out on the left front of the heel pad.  Possition the carpet so that the hump in the floorpan is in that cut-out.  There should also be a line in the heel pad that lines up with the floor pan as it starts angling up to the firewall.

I got my carpet from Legendary.  There isn't much overlap in the middle on mine.  Maybe a 1/2".  I have a lot of excess material going up the firewall.

FYI I am in the middle of exchanging carpet for our '98 GT that came from ACC...
Heal pad was 4" to far back & they acknowledged it was wrong.

Ya, I've heard the heel pad location isn't very accurate.  I just lucked out that I was able to possition it in the correct location AND the two carpet halves still overlapped.  If the carpet doesn't overlap with the heel pad in the correct spot, you'll just have to cheat it back a little.
