Disc Brake Rotors
« on: January 16, 2005 - 10:45:35 PM »
Finally getting around to "touching" my recently purchased 71 Challenger and found one of the front disc brake rotors with deep groves on the back side   It looks like a slot car track and I doubt it can be turned with the groves as deep as they are.  Can't figure out how it got this way and it appears whomever did the brakes last just put in new pads and did not try to fix the rotor.  Do you know it these rotors are readily available as replacements from Car Quest or NAPA?  Or am I searching junk yards or ordering high $$ aftermarket?  Brakes are working fine, but I might as well start looking now for new ones  :banghead:

I believe they arew available , there is a difference in the outer wheel brg between the 70-72 & 73 up but I think there is a change up brg to use the later rotors

Hey Troutstream, I just finished the brakes on my 73 a few months ago.  NAPA had or could get everything...The other parts places I tried wanted twice the money or didn't even list the parts. I didn't try Autozone though..

Car Quest can get them for around $45 each. I can get you the Car Quest part # if you want.

Thanks guys.   I'll stop in at Car Quest and see what they can do.  I'm a little down on NAPA now since they had problems on the last two adventures with them.  Car Quest is usually pretty good to me.

I forgot the 70-71 rotors were different than the 72 & later rotors. The 70-71 rotor are EXPENSIVE! Something like $150 each. If I were you, I would tray to hunt down some 73-76 A body disc brake spindles and do the conversion to the later style rotors, they are easier to get and a lot cheaper, about $40-$50 each.
