Gonna be redoing the doors soon and I'm looking at repainting the black line that goes around the woodgrain insert and on the tri-star emblem. It's flaked off in places over the years.

Mine currently looks to be flat black, but I wanted to make sure it hadn't simply faded over time...

Which is correct? Flat or gloss?

Thanks.

Mine are a semi-gloss.  SEM Trim Black will look correct. :2cents:

Let me know how you reattach the "Fratsog" once the new woodgrain is applied.

Semi. Gotcha.

As to the tri-star... I was wondering about that myself.

As I recall, it's kind of riveted on there. I was thinking I'd carefully grind the head off the rivet until it would come off, hopefully leaving a bit of the post there... and then glue it back on with some epoxy or something.

I'm almost positive the fratsog is held on by 3 rivets.

I just went out and looked at mine.  It looks like the three pins were originaly fairly long.  I think they put the part in a press and mushroomed the pins to hold the emblem inplace.  Once you get the emblem off, look and see how thick it is.  I wonder if it's thick enough to drill out the pins and thread the holes?  Probably not but it's worth a look.

If there is enough of the post left, and you can find the right size, you might be able to use speed nuts similar to the ones that hold the D-O-D-G-E letters onto the hood.

I used nuts in this style

The arch tends to snug up the trim.

They were just pot metal posts that were swedged over.
When I did door insert woorgrains, I just used a blob of black silicone on what was left of each of the 3 posts (enough to still go into the insert) after using an exacto blade to clear out the woodgrain from the holes.

I reattached mine with a dab of Loctite super adhesive on each post from behind.
