6 PACK - Mopar or Edelbrock - Holley or BG
« on: November 21, 2011 - 10:18:30 PM »
Ok - winter has begun so has the thoughts of a little more pep. Really want a six pack on the 'Cuda but can't decide between Mopar or Edelbrock intake, and Holley carbs or Barry Grant(Demon). The internet sure makes decisions difficult or perhaps it is my over analyzation(is this a word). Any help or opinions appreciated. The engine is a 500CI stroker - 510hp @ 620ft lbs. Current best is 12.15 @112mph. Fully dressed 'Cuda minus the spare tire.

I have no idea which will make more power, but FYI.... Barry Grant is out of business, so getting replacement parts might be an issue down the road?

Just went to the web Barry Grant website and they claim the brands are being revived - I am glad you mentioned this. Too bad as Indy sells a complete 6 pack with Demon carbs - looks great. Seems Holley has to be the right decision. Thanks!!!!!!

Maybe some has bought them out ? Was the BG cfm the same as holley? For some reason I seem to remember it was small....for a SBC?

http://indyheads.com/images/news3.pdf. They claim 1350 cfm like the Holley but with 3 accelerator pumps versus  1 with the Holley setup. I think I will email Indy for more info. I have seen the 750 cfm SBC you are thinking of. Indy is also the only place I have seen this 1350cfm option.

I can't see anyone but Barry Grant reviving the Demon name as they have a terrible reputation

BS CUDA, I would only buy a holley carb set up, I had a demon 1000 cfm carb. and all I had was trouble out of it, I talked to 3 different techs numerous times, They had me changing air bleeds, idle feed restrictors, jets, with always a different excuse from them why it wasn't  performing like it should. After a month of this I sold it at a big loss and bought a holley carb, and all I did was bolt it on set the idle and idle mixture, and check the float levels, the jetting was right on the mark. Save yourself a lot of trouble and money buy HOLLEY!!!  Brent

Sure seems to be common about BG 's bad reputation, although I bought a 850 BG Demon carb and have had no issues with it. Must be hit and miss? I did totally disassemble it first thing, and removed a few chips from their manufacturing procesess?

Yeah I think it is gonna be Holley. I do seem to hear more negative than good in regards to Demon. Besides I think I am getting good at setting up the single Holley - seems I jet weekly :). Besides how much trouble could 3 of them be?????????

The set I have for my 383 is an original set purchased from a Mopar dealer back in the late 70's and set on a shelf for 30 years.  They probably need going through just to put new seals into them.  They are the mechanical secondary racing version that open the outer carbs at the same rate the center carb opens!  I'm still not sure how these are going to do on the street, should be interesting...

Keep me posted on the results Jim :). Very interested as my 'Cuda likes to spend some of the weekend at the track and the rest of the time driving there. I will probably be ordering my setup after Christmas, but won't be road tested till roughly April as the snow won't stop falling till then. Hoping it will improve the 1/4 but if nothing else will sure look great.
