Aren't the octane ratings in Europe different than here in the states? I know that's true for the Countries "down under".

Yes, they are different, in Europe the RON ratings are used, here in the US the AKI is used. As a rule of thumb you can add 4 to the US rating to get the EU-rating. Thus, still, the Euro-98 rating would be a 93-94 rating over here. As I moved here recently I was confused first about the seemingly low ratings in the US and had to consult Wikipedia some. :)

OK, how average is this 93-94 octane fuel over there in the US?
Hard to get or pretty common?

In Ohio all the stations I go to offer 87, 89, and 93.  Not sure what it's like in the Southwest

I've never seen 93 at the pump, or could be once or so in east coast side..but Ca/Nevada I haven't seen once 93 in any station.

On the contrary, at Infineon raceway you can buy leaded 116 octane at the pump at mere 11,49$/gallon... or close.. anyway, cheap as milk  :)

Texas has 93 everywhere. Some stations have 87 89 93, chevron has 87 91 93. I've found chevron with techron is the best. Best gas Around these parts. I know you'll be in Texas on your trip. Look for Chevron.

Ok, Texas - Chevron.
Would be nice to have a list of states and fuel brands with 93+ octane fuel.
I can update this post if any additions are given.

Texas - Chevron
Colorado - ?
Utah - ?
Nevada - ?
California - ?
Arizona - ?
New Mexico - ?
