Disassemblable subwoofer box
« on: July 26, 2011 - 09:59:04 AM »
Is that a word?  Anyway...

I've got a subwoofer box that due to volume specs required for the drivers and trunk hatch size of Cuda, I've got to build in two parts and assemble in the trunk.  As such, I'll need to be able to disassemble it as well.  If you were to build a subwoofer box that needed to be assembled/disassembled easily, what gasket/sealer material would you use between the joints?

Hardware stores carry generic rolls of foam seal that has an adhesive on one side. Look for the dense black in as thin as you can get.

I did take a look at the door insulators or whatever but the thinnest I could find it in was 3/8" thick and that seemed a bit thick (compressed it will probably be 3/32" or so, which might leave a significant gap...

I also looked at shower liner because it seemed the correct thickness but was made of a hard rubber which I'm not sure would fill any imperfections in my cuts...

Should I start focusing on thinner insulation tape or is there something else that might fit the part?

Why, and how often are you going to be taking it apart an putting it back together? As long as it's new construction, maybe you should design it better so you don't need to deal with that aspect of it.
