I've been following this topic, my interior panels don't look like they need a complete refinish but could definitely use a good cleaning.  Any advice for what would do a good job at this?  I checked out SEM soap but....

contains a slight abrasive to open the substrate for greater adhesion.

I'm not sure if that would do more harm than good...

I cleaned my parts 4 times before spraying the Adhesion Promotor.  Once with soap/water...once with Simple Green...once with mineral spirits....and finally wiped them down with a grease/adhesive remover.

Not to hijack the thread.

Does anyone know a good match for a white interior?

I don't need to redo my whole interior, just touch up on some spots and the ceiling trim.   I plan on replacing my headliner at the same time.

I used an off white vinyl dye in the past that was a perfect match in the past a didn't keep the empty cans.   Wish now that I had.

Assuming your interior is black, the standard is SEM Landau Black. I used it on my center console which was original and crack free, but uneven color, and it now looks, literally, brand new.

There was a SEM cleaner, a product called "SEM sand free" (which I believe softens the plastic slightly so dye will penetrate better) and of course the dye.

The SEM site has the info.

As good as my console came out, I wouldn't think twice about using spray cans of dye, vs a gun. The panels' surface is textured and the SEM spray cans work better than anything I've ever used. Even the Trim Black paint comes out so smooth you can't tell it's from a spray can.

The Landau black is stated as a flat black, when applied does it look like stock (which I think is either semi gloss or satin I think) or does it come out flat black?
I'm looking for something with a sheen like the original

The Landau black comes out with a satin finish.

It's a good color/sheen match to the new dash pad I have.

Has anyone dyed a carpet? The reason I ask is that I am trying to convert my 68 DartGTS to a 4spd and trying to do it as cheap as possible :roflsmiley:I was able to buy a brand new Trim Parts 4spd carpet kit and headliner for $45,the problem is that its gold.I was gonna get a few bottles of RIT black dye for clothes, mix it with water and try spraying it with a spray bottle?I have some pieces that I can try first before commiting the full carpet set as a trial. If I can't get it to work I can live with the gold carpet for now.But just curious if anyone has tried anything like this and what was the outcome?
The door panels in my 69 Cuda were gold and were done with the SEM's spray and still look great after 2 years.

The SEM Interior paint is also designed to be used on carpet.  I think there are some instructional video's about it on Youtube.  I can see using it to repair a stain but I'd be very cautious about spraying an entire carpet.

I used SEM dye to change carpet from red to black in a 78 malibu I used to own. It works really well as long as you make sure it's really clean. I drove the car for 4 or 5 years after I dyed it and the only spot I noticed that was turning red again was on the drivers floor where I got some brake fluid from a bad firewall seal.

I have S/E door panels on my car. (I just like the look).

Anyhow, the black carpet on the bottom was faded and I used the SEM black landau black. It works great.
