Steel rims factory finish
« on: November 27, 2011 - 08:02:18 PM »
Hi,

what is the correct finish for  steel rims with dog dish center ?  It looks like painting the rims on body color is the way to go.  :screwy:

They were body color in 1970.  In early 71, they changed to black.  I believe the change over time frame is known...I just don't know it off hand.

ok, thanks.   If I will use the same PPG paint that I'm using for the body I bet they will scratch soon.   Do you use a different paint type ?   Powder coat ?

I guess it depends on what color the car is.  I might be concerned that powder coat wouldn't match exactly.  If the car is a solid(non metallic) color it might be OK.  I assume you're painting the car base/clear right?  Todays clear coats have a lot of solids in them and are very tough.  I think it would hold up just fine.
