wrong filament is lighting.

On one of my brakelight bulbs the wrong filament is lighting up when I put on my park lights. I've tried reversing the wires, sliding the contacts out and spinning them and it keeps doing the same thing. It's getting me a little frustrated, although at least I have all the lights working on the outside now, except the back up light, but that has to do with the B&M shifter that's in it.
Am I missing something, or do I need to chase the wire farther back towards the front of the car?

It's the 70 Challenger, inboard right side tail light

Some of the two-contact bulb sockets can reverse the wiring if the little disk from the bottom of the socket comes up and out and then is put back in 180 degrees off.  Make sure the socket contacts are where they're supposed to be.

I'm going to go over them again tomorrow. I had them on tonight and I think I have the park lights brighter than the brake lights right now. I did manage to get a headlight switch from a friend and it only cost me one of my 8 alternators. I also picked up a set of original 14x7 Rallye wheels with small caps and rings with brand new tires on today.

The rear harness is pretty simple. It connects just behind the kick panel on the driver's side.  You can just rig up a multi-meter there and work the pedals/signals to diagnose it instead of going back and forth to the rear to check them.  Also some year rear harnesses are reproduced (I think 70 and 71).

Make sure that you are getting a good ground on the socket.  I solder a ground wire to each socket, then ground the end to the tail panel.

Also make sure the correct bulb is used as well. I can't tell you how many times I've seen '69-'70 Chargers with the inside tail light looking like the damn brake lights are on only on the inside ones.
