Steering Column Differences

On a Cuda or Challenger with a factory manual transmission, what does the steering column look like as it exits the firewall?  Did all columns have the rotating lock arm that was used for the automatics, or was that for automatics only?  I have a 70 Barracuda that was originally an automatic car and the column has a rotating arm that is used for the linkage for the lock mechanism.  Does this rotating arm get used on a manuall trans car??   :dunno: :cheers:

I believe the column with the rotating arm was only used on cars with a column-mounted automatic shifter...

Cars with either a console-mounted auto or a 4-speed simply exit the firewall and go onto the steering box. No arm.

I say this with reasonable certainty. :-)

In 1970 the floor shift autos and 4 speeds are the same with the lock out arm.  In 71+ they use a different system and it would not have the arm.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Ha! That's where my "reasonable" came from. Wasn't sure about 1070. :-)

Out of curiosity, what's the purpose of that arm? Is that what locked the steering column when ignition was off?
