Hey guys,

Does anyone have an idea on the best way to restore the A/C and heater control panels? I see that a textured flat black paint seems to have been used on the panel surface. Also, the trim around the control panels proper are done in chrome. I know that Testor's used to sell Chrome plastic paint in an aerosol, but I don't know if that's still available.

Any suggestions?

I saw someone touch-up the chrome with a pen/marker they bought at a office supply store. It worked very well!! I was surprised!

I also found that Testor's still makes and sells the Chrome spray paint. I've never used it, but I *assume* that it produces a finish similar to that you find on the chrome plastic parts in a model kit.

Thanks MEKrunner. I called those guys and they were pretty much clueless.

I did call the folks that advertise in MCG with an ad for Mopaint. Here's what I found out:

1. The '70 and '71 pieces used a "suede" finish, which is indeed textured. The '72 and up pieces used a satin black finish.
2. The company had the satin finish in stock and was able to get the suede finish made up.
3. They didn't say anything about the chrome finish.
4. I did find the chrome paint on the Testor's website. See the link below.

I hope this helps. I'm all ears to hear from those who've done this before! I'll take pics of my restoration and let you know how it goes.
The folks that did seem to be familiar with the interior paints is 732-846-1044.

I had to re-do my dash as the wrinkle paint was flaking off. I tried a lot of different processes on a busted piece of dash and this is what finally worked. My dash wrinkle finish came out exactly the same as the original.

Wrinkle finish

Hard plastic

1 The room temperature should be 70 F
2 Apply 3 coats 3 minutes apart.
1st coat 15 passes in the same direction. Light coats
2nd coat different angle - 7 passes in the same direction. Light coats
3rd coat different angle - 5 passes in the same direction. Light coats
3 let the paint cure under a 100 watt light bulb that is 18 inches above the painted surface. The temperature should be at 90 F for 2 hours.

If the second and third coat is applied heavy you will get a heavier wrinkle.

Note some wrinkle paints react differently. I ended up using VHT

Just as a side note. Rob over at Mopaint is really helpful on the int colors. He helped me out a lot on a 72 Cuda I'm helping a friend with. It has honeydew int with a gold dash

. He was able to mix me up some dye and I've still got to get some for the other panels.

I didn't know he has the suede for the controls, that's good to know

� �Use a paint pen for the chrome part...find them at hobby stores..and use the 7220 black textured paint by rustolium..from home depo for the textered part..also note the space inside of the square were the switches are has no texture there :nopity:
