Fuel Line
« on: November 29, 2011 - 05:26:50 PM »
Looking for a short term fix-it.  Is there a problem with going from the main fuel line to mechanical fuel pump to filter to carburetor with just rubber hose?

I have used the rubber tube.  Make sure that it is gasoline compliant.  Get steele as soon as you can, though

That's the way I have mine setup. But every 4-5 years I replace the rubber lines because the ethanol in the gas now eats them up.

I wouldn't run that much standard fuel hose.  Just go to a parts store and buy a cheap section of fuel line.  Bend it up to fit...it doesn't have to be pretty.   The potential risk of fire isn't worth it IMO.  A 69 Road Runner burned at the Mopar Nats on Brice Road a few years back.  I'd hate for that to happen to you. :2cents:

This will just go from the main to the pump to the carberator.  Literally to drive it to the paint shop (hell of a time for the Fuel Pump to go).  It will be getting an entirely new fuel system immediately after.  So cheap is my angle.  But if I find the need for any rubber, it will be Teflon.

But guys I am having one helluva time finding the Fuel Pump adapter.  I bought 5/16th to 5/16th male and it leaves 2/16th thread sticking out.  That can't be correct... I have searched and searched and searched but all emails, calls and stores shoot me down.  Every internet thread ends with no answer: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=36012.msg360772#msg360772  :banghead:  :pullinghair:  :banghead: :pullinghair:

I like cheap 3/8" aluminum for easy hand forming and double flair fittings. $1/ft'
Summit has the inverted flair nuts. Hardware store has the rest.

5/16" pipe to 3/8 flair nut, using 3/8 aluminum tubing, and get a Summit double flair tool kit. I used a rt. > adapter to go up to the carb, and the inverted nut into the Holley fuel line. Tubing can be routed over dist.

Did that on my wife's '67 Cougar back in the day and started having vapor lock problems with it on hot days.  Just saying....

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.
