Are all steering sectors the same?
« on: December 13, 2011 - 04:19:41 PM »
Buidling a 71 Hemi Cuda clone. The car we have is an original 318 car with power steering, getting ready to rebuild the box and put a new pitman arm on it. Then I got to wondering if Dodge used different sectors on different cars? I know GM had quick ratio on some cars, or did the Hemi use a special box for clearance?

Then I see that PST has a fast ratio pitman / idle arm set also.

There are two sizes... small and large I think it's 1" and 1 1/8" small was used 66ish to 72, large 73 and up.
Firm feel also has those arms, I have them on my car. I've heard the large size is what you want unless your doing a #'s matching restoration as the parts are cheaper.

PST says they do not fit with headers,,,,not true I have headers on mine. Check firm feels site as they say which headers fit and what doesn't

I assume this is the orginal steering box so it must be the small, I can check tonight on that. I will have to thik about the long arms, already have a new idler arm that is short of course. Will be Hemi with stock manifolds so clearance shouldn't be an issue I guess.

Any good source on a rebuild kit for the sector.

Do you mean the steering box? If so Firm feel is famous for their steering boxes. I have a stage 3 power box being shipped at the moment.

I'd for sure check what you have now, mine is a 70 but someone before me was kind enough to swap out a big shaft box! :2thumbs:

I am not looking to get an entire new box, just a kit to replace the seals in the one I have.
