1968 Plymouth Sport Satellite 440 Super Commando
« on: January 31, 2012 - 08:12:45 AM »
Newbee 1RT2NV here: For those of you who didn't stop by when I introduced myself - HELLO - As I was telling a few other members during my introduction, I have to sell one or two of my Mopars to finish my 69 Hemi Dart project of two years. I've decided to sell my 68 Sport Satellite convertible & possibly my 70 Challenger SE ( RT/SE clone)

As a few of you already know, my real name is Dan & I'm the owner of Dream Car Automotive / Restoration in Poughkeepsie since 1975. I run
a small "Mom & Pops" shop & I'm a one man band. I'm just your average guy that's been fortunate enough to be living a dream & making money enough for my wife of 39 years to live on. I don't aspire to be a Chip Foose or some mega high roller - just enjoy life best I can & thank GOD each day I woke-up on this side of the grass. That being said - let me move on.

What you see below is an extremely solid 68 Sport Satellite drop-top. It's former owner & the person who didn't the restoration was a gentleman some may know of or heard of as "Mr. Rich The Performance King" Richard LeFebvre. Many say Mr. LeFebvre was the father of the
original AFX cars. I purchased the car from freind & customer Rick Weiman from the rock bands Blowfish - Pearl Jam & others where he is employed as lead guitar tuner. Some of you might have seem him on the cover of Mopar Collector Guide standing with his National Event Winning red 68 Road Runner. Rick is a die-hard Mopar guy through & through & owns some of the finest Mopars in the country - so this guy
knows great Mopars when he see's them.

Being in the restoration business for well over 30 years, I can attest to the quality & condition of the restoration done more then 20 years ago by Mr. LeFebvre - as it's stood the test of time without issue. This Sport Satellite still sports all it's original rust free body panels, trunk & floors.
The body is extremely straight - far better then any that left the factory & the paint shines as if it was done just a few years ago. Basically the interior is all original & in excellent condition for it's age. Aside from the replacement of front seat covers, what you see is exactly what this Sport Satellite was born with. Yes the tach & under dash gauges with added, but that's about the size of it. Even the AM radio works as it should, factory gauges, interior lights, wipers, blinkers, heater etc all work perfect.

During the re-paint of the original color & making the body Laser Straight - the original 5.2 Liter 318 was disregarded & in it's place is the entire driveline from a 68 GTX. So if you are a purist, I doubt this is the car for you. However, I do have a good running & complete 69-318 2 barrel engine & 904 transmission if your desire is to return the car back to pure stock. I will include both the engine & transmission in the sale if that's what it takes to a close a deal.

As stated, the Sport Satellite has now a professionally rebuilt to stock specs 440 Super Commando engine, with all it's correct date coded parts such as the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, big block radiator etc. However, the original AVS carburetor was ditched in favor of a
650cfm Edelbrock Thunder Series carburetor with electric choke for easier cold starts. As you can clearly see from the photos, the engine
looks as if it was born there. You'll also notice, the original Dark Green painted engine compartment - which is another testiment to this car pervious condition. The big block 727 transmission was also rebuilt & now has a shift kit & the 3.23 open with switched out for the GTX's 3.55 Sure-grip. A recent addition was a set of brand new chrome Magnum 500 rims & Red-line tires from Coker. Also added - but not pictured - is a
brand new pair of correct GTX chrome exhaust tips & reproduction hangers from Accurate Exhaust.

Aside from the above mentioned, it has Power steering, Power top (original & in very good overall condition include the glass rear window) &
4 wheel manual drum brakes that work better then average. All the chrome & brightwork are very nice, which included the rear finish panel between the tail-lights.

Last year I took the Sport Satellite to the 2011 All Chrysler Nationals, 2011 spring Hemmings Magazine Musclepalooza & the 2011 Northeast Adirondack Nationals. It runs excellent & loves the open road. I'm asking $28,500.00

Naturally "Personal" & qualified 3rd party inspections are welcome. There is a lift available for undercarriage viewing as well. More photos are available upon request if you respond with an email. Again my name is Dan & I can be reached at 845-473-1413 days & 845-546-5523 nights & weekends up to 9pm EST - Remember us old timers need our rest, so please no calls after 9pm. Location of the Sport Satellite is New York 12590 where it's currently in hiberation from the Winter. Thank you for viewing & I apologize for being so long winded.
