Source for the chrome seat-back knobs? 73 Challenger...

I'm looking for a set of the chrome seat back release knobs. Not the black ones that move the seat forward / back, but the ones that release the back to tilt forward..

Amazingly, there's none on ebay and I can't seem to find them after laborious Googling. :-)

The chrome on mine is pealing a little.  I think they are plastic aren't they?  The idea I had was to contact one of the guage restoration companies.  I sent my gauges to GCAR.  They can rechrome plastic gauge pieces.  I don't know why they couldn't do the seat back knobs too.

Yep... they are plastic and the chrome is bubbling/lifting. Irritating cause they are perfect otherwise.

Custom chroming sounds expensive. lol. Also, it seems like it would be tough to get the things off without damaging them. They seem to be the locking type with a little piece of metal that latches on once the knob is slipped on.

It maybe one of those things that we'll have to just live with for the time being.  Maybe another option will become available sometime.  It's not like the entire car would have to be disassembled to fix the problem.  I want to drive this thing next summer.

Apparently we've come across one of those odd "everybody's is messed up but nobody is repopping them" parts. :-(

There's absolutely NO way I'm paying $90 for those even if they were the right ones.  Mine aren't THAT bad.

I hear ya... every once in awhile I come across a repop part that is outrageously priced like those... $90? Really?

My set of NOS radio knobs were half that.

Yes, but you have to prioritise.  I need to come up with some 14" brushed trim rings long before I worry about those knobs.  A guy on this site spent $600 on 4 NOS trim rings.     Someone needs to repop those...I mean someone need to make a QUALITY repop of those.  Once the car is on the road, I can worry about a few smaller things.

Let me know if you come up with something.

If the 14" trim rings were available in a quality repo, I bet the retailers would ask $100 each. That is how I justified the $600 NOS ones.

As for the $90 repo seat piece... that is quite steep. I would think that NOS ones would be less than that. Honestly, having purchased a lot of NOS pieces for my car I have learnt this... I would much rather have a good original piece restored, than pay for a NOS part. Most of the time, even the NOS pieces need to be restored. As far as I'm concerned, you are money ahead restoring good original pieces, than buying repo junk, or NOS parts.
