ARP Bolts
« on: December 20, 2011 - 01:07:06 PM »
My rebuilt engine came with a mishmash of different, incorrect bolts. Should I pay the money and get the  ARP bolts or is there another alternative out there?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Steve,

Are the ARP bolts that much more expensive?   :dunno:

I have them on my intake manifold, but I really don't recall what I paid.

EDIT: I have them where my headers meet the heads too. I guess I would recommend them for any area where you need some torque to tighten things up. These are 2 areas that you definitely don't want leaks.

The complete engine set is about $140.00 from Summit/Year One etc. I am not really sure what else is out there. Just curious about what members are using.

I always use ARP studs, not bolts but studs. :2cents:

It's probably about $20 worth of grade-8 nuts and bolts from the local hardware store...  If you have aluminum heads or intake, you will most likely strip them before you break the bolt.

Brad,

So are you using "generic" type bolts for oil pan, timing cover etc?

I just went to my local "bolts plus" and bought stainless socket head cap screws for the timing cover, but I'm using a Milodon gear drive on mine. For the oil pan I bought 1 1/2" set screws ( they look like studs with provisions for an allen key) and stailess nylon lock nuts and washers. I'm not concerned with looking stock at all though.
