71 CUDA GRILLE PAINT
« on: February 08, 2011 - 12:36:38 PM »
I am ready to paint my 71 grille after the repairs, and ordered paint from totally auto, dark argent, but was wondering if the whole grille is painted this color, or are the inserts where the cheesegrater grilles go a different color? Thanks, Chad

I guess it depends on which style you want. I think there were two ways, monotone and bodycolor. Either way, the argent goes inside the 6 individual grilles.
But I think silver argent is the color, not dark.

Here's a picture of mine. Its a clone, but you get the idea:

If you're doing an agent grille and not painted:

Main area is a dark granular argent.
Inner areas to cheese grater are a smooth light argent.

Worth it if you want it right. Sparkles like they did when new.

yep, I agree.
I guess tastes have changed because Ive heard many times that they werent well received in 71.
I dont care much for the skinny little wheels of yesteryear though.

In 1979, I bought a new grille from the Plymouth dealer. Perhaps it might of been the last one from what I was told.

When I opened it, I recall the argent surround was very sparkly and a darker grey. Years later, it began to fade and became lighter about how 71Plym picture is . It's the same dark grey color as 71' center caps are when new.

they are the best looking grilles around, but the prices of them are going through the roof! I'm glad i only paid 500.00 for my broken grille and repaired it, I can't believe some one would pay 5,300.00 for a plastic grille, flawless or not.

I know the thread is a bit old but does anyone have any info on how the cheese graters were painted?
