A Couple More Color Questions
« on: January 03, 2012 - 12:38:00 PM »
Getting down to the end of figuring out all the of parts colors for my car but have a few left.

1) License plate light frame. The one I have is painted some cheaping looking alum color, is is suppose to be black like the tail panel

2) Inserts that go into the grill. Looks like just the thin edge surface that is facing out is gray to match the grill, the rest is black (this is a 71 grill that will be painted argent)

3) Was the gas pedal and such installed befreo the car was painted? So any nuts and bolts that come through the fire wall were painted the body color?

The pedal would have been installed AFTER paint.  The studs and nuts should be phosphated.

The phosphate is a kind of a metal gray color correct? So the entire pedal assembly wasn't black then? I was thinking of painting the entire pedal, studs, and nuts black.

The assembly should be a gray color.  Just soak the assembly in EvapoRust and it will look new again.  You can clear coat it or apply some RPM so it won't rust.

The brake and Clutch are black correct? I just figured the gas was also since the clutch and brake were.

I can paint it with my Pors Metal Mask to get it metal color

The brake and clutch pedals were dipped in black paint.  There should be a paint line on them.  Automatic brake pedals weren't dipped...they were sprayed and the black paint faded out.

The gas pedal was left natural.   You can paint it to look natural...just make sure that's what you really want to do.  I painted a lot of parts that I am now stripping and leave bare metal.  Paint will never look quite right IMO.

Check out this link for protection bare metal finishes...I'm only painting parts that weren't in nice enough condition to leave bare metal.

Now that we got the pedals all figured out did anyone have any info on

1) License plate light frame. The one I have is painted some cheaping looking alum color, is is suppose to be black like the tail panel

2) Inserts that go into the grill. Looks like just the thin edge surface that is facing out is gray to match the grill, the rest is black (this is a 71 grill that will be painted argent)

Also was taking about the steering column last night and noticed that the ignition trim looks like it is painted gray also like the license plate light frame, is this correct? I figured it would be chrome, blinker shaft is all rusty also so maybe it was painted, kinda cheap looking.
