Look Here! Good Mopar Specs!
« on: January 27, 2005 - 09:02:11 PM »
This is part of a 3-page ad that was in the June, 1970 issue of Car & Driver, in which Plymouth invited Sox & Martin over to Willow Springs proving grounds. Cars tested were 3 'Cudas, Road Runner, GTX and Duster.
(I hope the scan is legible.)

Here is the second page with the test results. Note that the Duster 340 was able to break into the 13s!

Isn't that something! I thought the Duster or 340 'Cuda would have the fastest lap, with their smaller size and less weight. And those consistent mid-13-sec. 1/4 mile time are not bad, either!
Overall, all of these Mopars have very impressive performance specs.
Kind of a quick quiz... which of these Mopars would you pick (first)?
Me... a hard choice, but probably the GTX. Really hard to decide, though!

Notice, also, that only the 340 'Cuda and Road Runner had over 1,000 miles on the odometer. The 383 'Cuda, for instance, with only 407.2 mile on the odo is almost guaranteed to run better 1/4 mile times with more miles on the clock.

Glad I had them!
If you like that, just wait until I post the '69 440 Dart GTS road test and '69 440-6 bbl Road Runner road test (of which the later ran a great 12.98 @ 111.66 1/4 mile.  :o

I would like my Challenger to run  mid-low 12's, but be more agressive around 40mph-70mph, or rololing starts.  ;D

They are good! Even the slowest 1/4 mile speed, at 96.68 mph for the 340 'Cuda, is very good. Especially considering that the first (1964) GTO tested by Motor Trend only had a 93 mph 1/4 mile speed.
