No start, 70 Cuda - 416ci

Guys, need some help here. About a month ago, went out to start the car, just to let it run for a bit. Don't like letting her sit for too long without letting things come up to temp once in a while. Anyways, car wouldn't start. Just kept cranking and cranking, no fire, yet I had spark at the plugs. Ended up removing all plugs, blowing them dry, let them sit out of the car a few days, and then she started up just fine. So basically the motor had flooded.

Since then, I have started he a few dimes and even drove her about 15 miles for gas just last week. Have to love the mild winter we're having! So I went out today and she didn't want to start. Seems flooded again, haven't pulled the plugs yet. But here is where it gets interesting: when I released the key from cranking, thats when it sounded a couple of times like it wanted to catch??

Is there something in the ignition I should be looking for? Car is a 1970 Gran Coupe, 416ci SB with about 900 miles since the stroke job, all new internals. Holley 750 vacuum secondaries, mopar electronic ignition, 727 auto.

Thanks, probably pull the plugs tonight for a look see, but want to get to the root of the problem.

Dutch, can you expand on your suggestion a bit? 12v in / out? Thanks for the quick response.

Turn your key to the "on"position. You should have close to 12V going in to the ballast resistor.

Forgive my memory lapse, but I think you should have 10.5 volts or so on the output leading to the ignition coil.

I measured a spare Ballast resistor I have laying around:

Across 2 posts you should have 1.5-1.7 ohms
Across the other 2 should be 5.4-5.5 ohms
Across all other posts the resistance should he HI/OL or whatever the meter reads for an open circuit

I guess we should have asked what ballast resistor he has.   :banghead:

If you have two prongs...An input and an output, disconnect one end and hopefully don't measure more than 1.2 Ohms.

Not ballest resistor. It wouldn't start if it is fried.
only one push on gas petal when trying to start.
Let choke set.
or
Let car set a couple days pull some plugs before starting to see if dry,

Your fuel bowl maybe draining into cyl's.
Should have a 2 prong ballast.
