inner fender hinge area
« on: April 16, 2012 - 11:32:59 AM »

Do they offer a patch or should I replace sheetmetal and re-attach mounting plates?  How critical is the position.    not wanting to replace the entire part.

Thanks

They make a patch for that area. Contact Dave @ Roseville.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

If you buy the patch or make your own: Make a template to transfer the position of the bolt holes.

I just did this to both inner fenders on mine.
I'll post some pics when I get home from work.
It's easy enough to just use some flat steel and weld it in.
I took a lot of measurements too that I'll post also.

Ok,
Judging from your pic, it looks like I had identical issues in both places that you do.

The hood hinge location has two pieces behind it.........

Take some measurements of where the oval hole is..........

I cut out the piece making sure when I cut it out that the back pieces were not cut into..........

I then separated the pieces..........

Fit a good piece of steel into preexisting hole...........

Welded and ground down into place..........

Drilled 4 holes and oval hole..........

Re welded back piece back into place.........

The other piece I see on yours toward the firewall, I had to fix too.
I just cut out the bad stuff and welded a good piece in there too......

 I hope this helps you.
If any of it did not make sense, or if you need any additional pics, just let me know

Great step by step, I'll give it a try!

It will be my first repair using the newly aquired but used millermatic 250... should go better than using the flux core unit.

THanks

How critical is the up-down placement of the hinge hole?

I measured 1.625" down on this side, but when I measure the other side it comes in at 1.5"

I would guess that I will be off by an +/- 1/8” in the slot re-placement.

Hold your hinge up to where it should be and center the hole.

  good idea!   Pulled the hinges out of storage this morning and realized that they are also slotted.  So there is plenty of adjustment in both direction...      I'll mark it up on center while I'm at it.
