"How to" area
« on: February 17, 2012 - 01:24:08 PM »
I had  a thought today, and since that doesn't happen often I decided to pay attention.

How about a 'How to' area? It would be for things like 'how to install billboards/hood blackouts' and 'how to build your own frame connectors' and stuff like that.
I'm going to be doing both those things in the next week and thought it would be cool to be able to just go to a section and get the directions instead of posting questions that have already been asked or having to sift through the results after searching the site.

Just a few things I can think of that would be handy:
Go wing install with measurements
Hood Blackout/Billboards from wax removal to bubble removal
Subframe connectors with rough lengths and where to put the notch for the bend
Interior panel dying and or carpet dying
Decal removal
Vinyl top removal
Detailing underhood bits and pieces
and pretty much anything else that you can do on your own.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

A lot of those answers are in the individual categories  . . . I like the idea but I'm afraid there would be too much stuff in there and you would still hae to search for what you are looking for.  It would range from how to size up your tires to how to wire your car to how to bleed your brake to how to install dash lights?   All the categories would be in one area and I think it would just be too much.

But still a good idea!    :2thumbs:

Check out the Archives section too.

The thread about reference pictures is helpful.

I think an individual, generalized section with every category covered will just be a giant cluster f#&k.
Plus, without everyone using an outside image host, most of these "reference" threads will end up being useless, just like most are now.
This is how they will eventually end up

Though I like the idea, it's usefulness down the road will hit a dead end  :2cents:  :blah:   :violin:

What I was thinking was something where the how to is posted and then the thread gets closed. If the author wants to add something later, they open it, add their stuff and close it again. If someone has found a better way they pm the author and it's up to them to edit or not.
Requiring that pics be hosted by an outside host would stop the pics from disappearing.
Also, if the title said what the how to was for it would be like going to a library and looking through the how to area.
