    How in the world do you get new carpet to lay down like it is suppose to?

    I put new Legendary carpet in my Cuda last week, and it is still standing at attention in the front floorboard area. On both sides of the trans hump, it has not laid down yet?....What can I do? :dontknow:

    Once it warms up, it should lay down some.  But 3m adhesive is a quick fix.  I’d probably just do the problem areas and try not to over do it.  May want to remove the carpet sometime in the future.     :thumbs:

    I know the upholstery guys use steam to stretch and fit leather, maybe it will work to make the carpet more cooperative?  Just a thought.

    assume your car is a standard, (small hump) any chance they may have sent you a set molded for an automatic? If not, maybe it wil lay down in time. I wouldnt think you should have to glue it down. It would be a pain to remove if you had to take it out for any reason. If it just isnt happening I might be inclined to strategically place a small oval head interior screw with a finishing washer in the worst area(s)

    In Texas where it is hot Burpins carpet went in real good. There was only one spot that wasnt perfect, but you cant notice it. And Burpin aint tellin either.

    I used to install carpet years ago when I was in High School and I learnedd a really cool trick when installing a large room. We used to lay the carpet ou in the room like normal and then flip the carpet in half. We would then take a 5 gal bucket of water and a piece of carpet as a way of spreading the water out on the back of the carpet. Just dip the carpet scrap into the water and splash the back of the carpet. then fip it back and do the other side. It took so much less time and effort to kick the carpet out to get a good stretch. Not to mention if I had learned it sooner it would have saved both of my knees. Can't drive a stick shift anymore. The moral of the story is when the carpet was wet it would bens and stretch easily. When it dried it actually shrank a little and got even tighter! If the carpet is not in the car yet I would really consider wetting it down with REALLY hot water. It will stay hot for a while. Ii its in the car you car lay a couple of beach towels on the carpet areas you want to heat and splash the water onto the towels. The towels will trap th heat agianst the carpet like a steamer. Let it sit for a day or two after the install and the carpet should keep the form. Sorry this took so long but I think this will work for you, Later
