1970 Challenger Project, 7,500 SOLD!!

You want Vanishing Point, we got Vanishing Point. Or pretty close to it. Power buldge hood, Numbers Matching 383 w/ Holley 2 bbl, 727 Tourqueflite trans, dual exhaust, factory air ready to restore. It has sat for an while before I got it, so I was in the process of taking out the engine for an assessment and rebuild when another opportunity came along. Previous owner seems to think crank is broken. I even freed up the exhaust pipes. That sucked. So everything is labelled and stored, and I have pictures of it all. Block and trans are still in vehicle.

Sheet metal is so-so. Left fender good, right fender has long crease, left door good, right has a pretty good rumple. Left 1/4 has good size dent in bottom rear, right 1/4 good. Hood has a few dings and is missing inserts but otherwise firm. Front grille grid is slightly damaged but intact. Aluminum surround, however has had the passenger side lopped off with a sawzall -- inexplicable and brutal modification -- so sad. Missing front and rear lower vallences. Other than through-rust below back window, a hole in the floor, and a small one in the trunk, all other rust is surface only. Roof has surface rust and is pitted from vinyl (which is long gone). Front and rear trim gone, but roof and window trim extant and good. Interior pretty beat up with mysterious bucket seats from who knows what vehicle. Not sure if gauges work or not. All lenses intact, albeit with some cracking here and there. Both door handle levers busted. Cracks in windshield on drivers side, but other glass intact, incluing factory air sticker.

 NO FENDER TAG (right fender is replacement), but serial # starts with JH23, built in LA. This old guy has been ridden hard and put up wet, but is ripe for resto.  I am asking 7,500 but am more than happy to bargain.

I wish I had some emails to respond to!! ;-} I guess this economy really is pretty bad for selling these old beasties. I've only had two calls from Craigslist and no response from the forum members.
    My iPad won;t let me import images, so i sent some to the moderator to include.

Thanks.  It is bad for everything right now. I have a rusty Challenger here that I tried to sell.  I was getting offers around $1,500.  It is worth more in parts.  I might just weld a couple of things on it and bondo the dents up.  A cheap coat of paint will get it so I can drive it for a few years before it needs more attention. During that time I will see if it gets valuable enough to restore.

The problem is the economy sucks, but the restoration costs are the same as they were when the market was high.  $7500 is a bit much for a full on project car needing a lot of work IMO. $4000 would be closer by the time you factor in restoration costs, and fixing the original motor and going through everything.  When your done you will be well invested for a car thats not worth near what your into it.  Most people are sticking to the pedigree stuff as prices hasnt changed on Cudas, R/T anything, Chargers, Superbee, and the other expensive stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I will change to posting as soon as I hammer this out.
   Chally6Pak -- I got 6,800 for it, I think, and the satisfaction that the fella I sold it to was much better equipped knowledge wise to get the chasis stuff working (I'm just a lowly metalworker). He is also going to do a faithful restoration, where I was going to be happy letting it be pretty rough around the edges, and even getting a little "arty" (read Mad Max) with it -- less than a '70 deserves.

Congratulations.  I think you did well.  Hopefully it is a sign of some improvement in the market.  As mentioned, the cost to restore is the same even though values are down.  I fear that if the values don't go up soon, many cars like the one you sold will be used for parts and cease to exist.  That will mean less need for reproduction parts, etc.  We need as many cars in the hobby as we can get to help keep it going.
